UNIX Systems Administrator on GSA STARS II Small Business IDIQ are responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of UNIX operating systems. They work closely with the venue where the UNIX multiuser operating system is placed. Install hardware and software that is related to the UNIX system and also eliminate any hardware or software error before it escalates. Ensure that the UNIX multiuser operating system works smoothly and recognize and troubleshoot problems with server hardware and applications software. May work independently or work with the information technology department of the organization to resolve network issues or server breakdown. May have bachelor’s degrees in computer engineering, computer science and other related fields. Establish and document standards and procedures for management review. Require extensive knowledge of computer operations and familiarity with shell and kernel programming. Experienced in LAN/WAN environment management, LAN/WAN administration, LAN/WAN performance tuning, LAN/WAN software and hardware maintenance, and have strong LAN/WAN network diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. May be proficient in database programming languages such as ORACLE, SQL, Transact-SQL, SYBASE, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS); and other relevant computer programming languages such as MySQL, jQuery, Oracle, Java Script, Angular, CSS, HTML 5, Apache, Node.js, Beans, Python, Bash, C, C++, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, and so on. Have extensive knowledge of relational database theory, database administration, data modeling, data analysis, database design, repository creation, data architecture, data warehouse modeling, database management reporting, business management, management engineering, systems engineering, operations research, and so on. Responsible for UNIX operating system upgrade and performance enhancement. Put in place standard procedures for detecting and preventing server security breaches and the processes for resolving them. Responsible for integrating the UNIX system with both internal and external security systems or infrastructure. Develop, implement, and maintain necessary back up or disaster recovery procedures. Typically requires two to four years of experience.
