LAN Support Technician Intermediate on GSA STARS II Small Business IDIQ provides first, second and third level end-user support for local area networks under supervision. They monitor, diagnose and resolve problems in the local area network. Respond to calls and emails from end-users and resolve their requests. Responsible for troubleshooting basic and intermediate level LAN problems, as well as network software and hardware tools and devices. Run server updates and monitor the network servers. Have degrees in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Network Administration and other related fields. May possess licenses and certificates like A+, Network+, Netware Administrator certification, MCSE, MCDST, MCP, MOS, Cisco CCNA, and so on. Have extensive knowledge of relational database theory, database administration, data modeling, data analysis, database design, repository creation, data architecture, data warehouse modeling, database management reporting, business management, management engineering, systems engineering, operations research, and so on. Have working knowledge of operating systems, Windows or Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Internet Information Services, Windows Server, Linux, Unix, as well as Microsoft Office suite applications. Proficient in LAN/WAN systems, LAN/WAN environments, LAN/WAN connections, and LAN/WAN network components, including Firewalls, Routers, and other networking products and devices. May be proficient in Website development, Exchange server Software and Microsoft Office Professional Suite Application. Monitor, diagnose and resolve problems in the local area network. Under the supervision of the Senior LAN Support Technician, test or supervise the testing of local area networks for weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Manage active end users on the network server and their activities and offer any support they may need. Use problem tracking systems to input client’s request, inquiries and complaints, update them and close the requests or inquiries as appropriate. Assist end-users with the installation and configuration of network software and hardware tools and train them about the best network usage practices for better productivity. Monitor and update the server periodically. Update security infrastructures like SPAM filters, firewalls, Antivirus and IPS to ensure network security. Implement local area network polices and standards in line with organizational or household goals. In collaboration with the Senior LAN Support Technician, responsible for decision making on the purchases and installation of all network software and hardware tools.

May interface with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. May assist with installation of terminals and associated hardware. May provide LAN server support. Requires strong knowledge of PC/LAN communications hardware/software, in a multi-protocol environment, and network management software. Typically requires two to four years experience in data communications troubleshooting.
